Unbleached Cotton, Hemp, Hemp/Cotton, Bamboo Diapers:
Prior to use wash your new diapers a couple of times in hot water with a small amount of mild detergent, drying between each wash cycle. This will help make your diapers fully absorbent. Do not use fabric softeners, dryer sheets or detergents containing citrus oils as they will coat the diapers making them water repellent. To help keep your diapers disinfected naturally - add a few drops of Tea Tree Oil to your diaper pail and/or your washing machine. Do not use bleach. Keep your wet and dirty diapers in a covered diaper pail. Using a waterproof bag is an excellent option to help seal in odours between washings and make emptying the diaper pail more convenient. Wool Covers: To wash your wool covers simply soak them in cold water with a small amount of mild detergent for about 20-30 minutes. Then roll them up in a towel to get the excess water out and lay flat or hang to dry.You will need to lanolize your wool covers every 3-4 washes by adding a teaspoonful of melted lanoline (Lansinoh or PureLan by Medela) to soapy water and soaking them in it for about 10-20 minutes. Wool covers do not have to be washed at every change (unless soiled) so just air them when wet and they will smell fresh again. Wash every 10-14 days. Polyester/fleece covers: Hand or machine wash in warm water using a small amount of detergent. Hang to dry or tumble dry on medium heat.
